Participant Story
I came to the Centre shy and unsure of myself. Today I lead my school's peer mentorship club and dream of becoming a doctor to serve my island.
Every number represents a child fed, a family supported, a future unlocked. Since our launch in August 2017, KE0274 PEFA Mfangano CYDC has walked alongside hundreds of vulnerable children and youth — releasing them from poverty in Jesus' name through holistic spiritual, physical, socio-emotional, and economic development.
From a signed partnership to a movement of holistic transformation — a chronicle of God's faithfulness through every season of our work on Mfangano Island.
On the shores of Lake Victoria, a vision took root — to release children from poverty in Jesus' name through holistic development.
A strategic partnership was formally signed between Sena PEFA Church and Compassion International Kenya, laying the foundation for holistic child development on Mfangano Island — a covenant that would change generations.
KE0274 PEFA Mfangano CYDC was officially commissioned at Sena Centre, PEFA Cathedral Sena in Suba West Sub-County — marking the beginning of a new chapter for hundreds of families across Mfangano Island and the surrounding communities.
The first cohort of children and youth was officially enrolled into the Child Development program, beginning their journey through spiritual formation, academic support, and holistic care — from pregnancy through young adulthood.
Launched integrated programs in agriculture, entrepreneurship, WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene), and environmental conservation — equipping families with practical skills to break cycles of poverty and build sustainable livelihoods.
Introduced a comprehensive digital Student Portal featuring timetables, assignment tracking, and academic results — modernizing how participants and families engage with program resources.
Achieved full Child Protection Certification alongside the launch of the Kenya Child Protection Strategy, with a 24/7 reporting hotline and comprehensive safeguarding training for all staff and volunteers.
Nearly a decade in, our first graduates are becoming self-reliant, Christ-centered adults who know Christ, make Him known, and are returning as mentors, tutors, and leaders in their communities — fulfilling the vision of transformation.
Every day brings new milestones, new lives transformed, and new evidence of God's faithfulness. Walk with us into the next chapter.
Behind every milestone is a name, a family, and a story of hope. These are the lived experiences of participants, parents, and volunteers whose lives have been changed through the work of the Centre.
